About us

My name is Chantal, and I am the heart behind Maskwa Collective.
'Maskwa' is the Cree word for 'bear', also used in some Michif dialects (pronounced 'Muss-kwa'). This name is reflective of my Metis heritage and reverence for this incredible animal guide. Maskwa teaches us of ancestral wisdom, slow medicine and connecting to the earth and seasons of life in an authentic and grounded way.
From the time I was a very young girl I have been deeply connected to the spirit world, and have always felt called to the wisdom of the plants and their ability to connect us back to land and spirit. I am delighted that my passion for plants and candle making has grown into this space where I can share these gifts with the wider community.
Every creation I offer is born from personal connection and experience. Each plant and healing modality I work with has been sat with, listened to, and woven into my life through relationship and respect. My process is slow, intentional, and rooted in gratitude for both the physical and energetic teachings of the plants.
Before Maskwa Collective, I founded and ran Glo, a candle business based in the Cowichan Valley. Glo taught me the magic of community, ritual, and light, elements that now weave seamlessly into the spirit of Maskwa Collective.
I am Maskwa Collective: a blending of herbal knowledge, spiritual connection, and the quiet glow of essential oil candles. This space is my offering: a reflection of the land, the medicine of the plants, and the energy of authenticity that guides it all.
